Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held a series of high-level meetings with regional leaders in the Qatari capital on Monday, urging Muslim nations to forge a unified front to stop the ongoing crimes of the Israeli regime.
Pezeshkian is in Doha to participate in an extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League, convened in response to Israel’s intensifying attacks in the region.
Meeting with Saudi Crown Prince
As part of his visit, Pezeshkian met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
While details of their talks were not immediately disclosed, the meeting was seen as significant given the efforts by both Tehran and Riyadh in recent years to improve relations after years of regional rivalry.
Talks with Qatar’s Emir
The Iranian president also held talks with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Qatar has maintained close coordination with Iran on regional developments and has played an active role in mediating crises across the region.
Meeting with Iraq’s Prime Minister
As part of his official engagement in Doha, Pezeshkian met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani. The two leaders stressed the urgent need for Islamic countries to adopt a common stance and take practical measures to halt what they described as the systematic crimes of the Israeli regime.
“I am always pleased to meet with you as brothers in faith who share a common history and culture,” Pezeshkian said during the meeting. “The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to expand cooperation, elevate bilateral relations, and activate shared capacities with Iraq across all fields, for the benefit of our two nations and the peoples of the region.”
The Iranian president also underscored that Israel would not be able to continue its crimes without the support of the United States and certain European governments. “From the election campaign until today, I have consistently declared my pursuit of unity and cohesion within my country and across the Islamic world,” he added. “I firmly believe that strengthening Islamic solidarity is the most effective way to counter the criminal policies of the Zionist regime.”
Bilateral diplomacy on the sidelines
Pezeshkian also held separate meetings with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon reaffirming Tehran’s commitment to strengthening bilateral and regional cooperation.
The Doha summit comes amid mounting pressure on Muslim leaders to respond collectively to the deepening humanitarian crisis caused by Israel’s ongoing military campaign. On September 9, Israeli warplanes struck a Hamas office in Doha, targeting senior members of the Palestinian resistance movement as they met to discuss a new U.S.-brokered ceasefire proposal for Gaza. The strikes killed five Hamas officials, a Qatari security officer, and several civilians. Hamas later confirmed its senior negotiators had survived.
